Region 13 - Caraga
Agusan del Norte Agusan del Norte is blessed with natural features. Lake Mainit is a sanctuary for various marine species and exotic birds, and is a good spot for fishing and boating. Other natural attractions include the Agusan and Aciga rivers and the mountains of Hilay-Hilay, Minaosog, Mabalo and Mayapay, which are good for climbing and trekking. Butuan City is the capital of Agusan del Norte, and is rich in history. Historical attractions include the Balangay Shrine Museum, the Diocesan Liturgical Museum, and Butuan Regional Museum, whose exhibits date back to the 11th Century. A sea-going outrigger boat, estimated to be more than 1,000 years old, was discovered near Butuan City. Agusan del Sur The main feature of Agusan del Sur is the Agusan River and the Agusan Marsh, which is a wetland eco-system home to the Manobo tribe. Wildlife in the marsh includes purple herons, storks, sea eagles, wild ducks and many endangered species. Other natural attractions include Binaba Falls, Mt. Diwata Hot and Cold Springs, the Gibong River, the giant Toog trees in San Francisco, and the underground river near the capital of Prosperidad. Surigao del Norte The main attraction of Surigao del Norte is Siargao Island, which is frequently visited by surfers from the nation and around the world. The popular surfing breaks are Horseshoes, Tuesday Rock, Pilar Point and Cloud Nine, the site of the annual Siargao Surfing Cup. First-class, white sand beaches include the islands of Bucas Grande, East Bucas, Guyam, Anahawan, Janosa and Daku. Sohotan Cave is also a natural attraction that is only accessible during low tide into a lagoon of many islets. Surigao City is the starting point for island-hopping. The main attraction is Luneta Park. Water activities include Sagisi Island for swimming and diving, and Mabua Pebble Beach for windsurfing, jet skiing and other water sports. Historical landmarks include Punta Buluarte, which was an observation point for the Spanish Friars and Japanese Occupation Forces. Other attractions include the Buenavista Cave, the pearl farm at Nagabo, the Floating Village of Day-Asan, the Manjagao Mangrove Forest, and the Cantiasay San Pedro Bridge, a wooden footbridge spanning 391 meters long. Surigao del Sur Surigao del Sur has been described as an 'Adventurer's Shangri-La by the Pacific' for its natural wonders. Cagwait White Beach is one of the best unspoiled beaches in the country. Lanuza Bay is known for surfing. Other natural attractions include the islets of San Agustin, the multi-tiered Tinuy-an Falls in Bislig, the Malinawa Cool Spring in Catillan, Iron Mountain in Carrascal and the Libas Suda Hot Spring in San Miguel.
